comprehensive Diagnostic evaluation

An autism spectrum disorder evaluation is a specialized, comprehensive diagnostic evaluation that is appropriate when there is a concern about the presence of an autism spectrum disorder for your child. Autism spectrum disorder is a developmental disability that can create significant social, communication, and behavioral challenges. The condition may look very different for different people, ranging from mild to severe difficulties, as do the recommended intervention strategies and need for support.

Recreational Activities

Special Olympics

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

Arts Adventures

The Arts Adventures Autism Program is a unique community-based arts and respite program for youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and their neural-typical peers.  The program was established in 2007, at the behest of the autism community - including the University of New Mexico's Center for Development and Disability, who approached VSA NM because there was a lack of community-based cultural activities for children with ASDs and a severe shortage of services available for their families. In response to this community need and with seed funding from the New Mexico Department of Health, Arts Adventures was established.

Mandy’s Farm

Our services are designed to help individuals identify, develop, and achieve their goals. Our pre-vocational Day Services program offers access to all of our amenities spread across three sites, including our fully-operational barn, therapeutic pool, orchard, cold frame greenhouses, gardens, and our visual arts program in the Los Ranchos, called Appaloosa Art Space.

Lobo Little League - Challenger Division

Lobo Little League Challenger Division offers disabled children the opportunity to play youth baseball on a real team, to learn the game and to create lasting friendships. No score is kept. Every player is a winner. Everyone has a turn at bat, advances through the bases, and takes a turn in the outfield. The wide range of abilities of Challenger participants will necessitate variations not only in the rules, but also in the philosophy of conventional baseball. One of the unique benefits of the Challenger Divisions is the use of the “buddy” system, whereby handicapped players will be assisted by non-handicapped players, e.g., helping handicapped players in rounding bases. This buddy system has been a proven benefit in programs across the country in establishing good relationships between disabled and non-disabled players.

Adaptive Ski Program

Since 1985, the Adaptive Sports Program New Mexico has offered therapeutic recreational activities to children and adults with disabilities. Today, ASPNM proudly offers a wide variety of adaptive sports year round, including skiing, snowboarding, watersports, river rafting, yoga, rock climbing and more.

AYSO VIP SOCCER

Kids with special needs are estimated to make up approximately 10% of the school-age population. Special schools and classrooms can isolate these children so the VIP Program has been structured to integrate our special kids into the rest of AYSO by using "buddies" from non-VIP teams to help these players both on and off the field.
